A New Angel In Heaven

I received news at work that I dreaded from the moment I started working with children - the news that one of them had passed away. Quantia was one of the prettiest little 8 year old girls you have ever seen. Though she could not speak a word, her eyes and expressions spoke volumes! Oh those big beautiful eyes! She was a tiny little thing who loved the color purple and always looked like she came straight from a catalog. If she got one part of her outfit dirty, you just had to change the whole thing so she would match! Special treats were having her fingernails painted or getting to wear flavored lipgloss. I had just seen her on Friday in the classroom, and she was having a great day! No one knew that she had developed diabetes, and the new formula they were giving her through her feeding tube had lots of sugars in it. They were trying to put some weight on her tiny frame, and instead sent her into a diabetic coma. Her mom found her Monday morning as she went to wake her for school. She started CPR and called 911, but it was just time for a new angel in Heaven. When we went to the funeral home I was not prepared for the tiny casket. There she was in a lacy white dress, looking like the little angel she was. Gone was the medical mistake that caused her problems at birth. Gone was the tube that kept her fed. In Heaven, Quantia could sit up by herself and walk and run and talk and do all the things she was denied here on Earth. One thing is for sure, she knew she was loved by everyone she ever met down here, and definitely made her little mark on my heart.
