Double Digits

It's something that happens only once in a lifetime. Daniel hit the double digit mark! Talk about one excited little dude! And what was he most excited about? He can now go and get his first military ID card!

We enjoyed the family party at my mom's house complete with a Hot Wheels cake. Mrs. Margaret and Bobby came, and Daniel excitedly measured his height with Mrs. Margaret. She is such a tiny little lady! The boys think it is so cool to be taller than her. He opened his gifts, one of which was a special outing this weekend. We had originally thought to go to Andretti's, which is an indoor kart racing and entertainment place. After we looked at the pricing, we asked Daniel what he'd like to do. We gave him the option of all kinds of places around Atlanta, and he finally chose the zoo.

We had a great day at the zoo! The animals were very active. The lion, who has been sleeping every time I have visited the zoo in my life, woke from his 30 year coma and actually roared!!! There is a new exhibit of naked mole rats, which was really weird. They are strange little creatures. Then there was a bird called a Kory Bustard, which is like a chicken on steroids! This bird stood as tall or taller than Daniel, and would inflate his throat and snap his beak together to make a hollow booming sound that could be heard all over the zoo! It was incredible!

As I watched Mr. Double Digits sleeping in his bed, I thought back over the week. Every human on earth is different, even though we are made of the same parts. Then there are the magnificent creatures, from the wrinkled little naked mole rat to the giant bird with a booming voice. How does someone look at all of this wonder and variety and not believe in God? Could all of this really happen by an accidental swirl of dust in the universe? As I turned off the light in my sleeping baby's room, I kissed his beautiful little face. My boys are gifts from God, the Creator of the Universe, and of this I have no doubt!
